ASCD: Leadership Institute for Legislative Advocacy

The conference will help educators at all levels -- from teachers to administrators --  also provide them with the opportunity to use those skills in meetings with their congressional representatives. At LILA, we aim to provide the guidance and support to help educators put their knowledge too powerful use

  • A keynote address from Paul Reville -The former Massachusetts secretary of education will discuss the importance of whole child policies that support the comprehensive needs of students. Reville has been instrumental in highlighting the out-of-school factors that affect learning.
  • Federal policy updates -- Policy Insiders will share the latest news on ESEA reauthorization, along with updates on what lawmakers are planning for top-of-mind topics such as teacher evaluations and school accountability. ASCD will also unveil the association's 2016 legislative agenda and policy priorities.
  • Interactive skill-building sessions -- Participants will learn how to translate their firsthand experiences as educators into compelling examples and stories to influence legislators' decision-making.
  • Capitol Hill visits with federal lawmakers-Participants will have the chance to put their advocacy training and skills into practice and tell lawmakers about the education policies and issues that affect their work.
