CASE STUDY: GITHUB
GitHub Education helps students, teachers, and schools access the best real-world tools, learning events, and training to shape the next generation of software development. GitHub is the largest and most advanced development platform in the world. With its code hosting platform designed for version control and collaboration, GitHub lets users work together on projects from anywhere. On GitHub, over 73 million developers shape the future of software together.
THE CHALLENGE:
The team at GitHub sought a partner to help them translate their deep content expertise about computer science and coding into targeted, engaging professional development to higher ed classroom teachers who use GitHub in their courses. Without insight into instructional design, GitHub struggled to make content accessible to an international audience that included enough scaffolding for new users, as well as enough rigor for experienced users. GitHub also needed a way to scale their professional development content in order to build capacity across local sites.
RYE’S IMPACT:
RYE partnered with GitHub to examine the instructional design of their existing professional development. Looking through the lens of a teacher, RYE was able to identify areas of professional learning that needed additional scaffolding to meet the needs of varying experience levels with the world of coding.
Redesigning and restructuring pieces of content that were unclear, RYE worked alongside GitHub to build engaging sessions that can inspire their international user base. The new professional development, now clear and motivating, can successfully be implemented both synchronously and asynchronously to audiences all over the world. RYE advised GitHub by developing marketing documents, training facilitators, and creating professional development delivered across three different countries.
