Teachstone - Policy

The Company:

With a history rooted in the creation and implementation of the CLASS tool (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) for measuring the quality of student-teacher interactions in early education, Teachstone has become the trusted leader in CLASS-driven measurement and mentoring. With more than half the states in the nation using CLASS as part of their early education QRIS, Teachstone provides professional development, training and services to educators across the country.

The Challenge

The early childhood funding landscape is dizzyingly intricate - an elaborate combination of federal, state, local, public and private money, each with its own processes and organizations, always subject to legislative and policy changes. While Teachstone’s CLASS tool provides universal insight into the quality of teacher-child interaction, their sales team needed better insight into the lay of the land in each particular state that could use the CLASS tool to further. Teachstone’s policy research was sporadic, siloed within specific departments, and opportunities for efficient collaboration were falling by the wayside.

Our Role

Working to identify and thoughtfully meet the needs of several departments across Teachstone, RYE researched, created and continues to maintain an internal database of early childhood funding, policy and grant language for the Teachstone team. With regular recurring research to keep the information as current as possible, RYE trained sales and other staff to make effective use of these state profiles. Critical public information from the database also lives on Teachstone’s external website, where it can serve as a resource for state administrators, an important element of Teachstone’s customer base.

We were in need of a thorough, customizable compilation of the states’ information, with the ability to update it on a regular basis, and RYE’s thoughtful approach and outstanding attention to detail provided this for us.
— Amy Cubbage, VP of Policy and Strategy

Our Approach

  • RYE researched client partnerships, state legislation, state and federal funding in both current and future cycles, identifying areas of success and pinpointing areas for growth.

  • RYE built a comprehensive database of state-level partnerships, policy and grant funding language for internal use across the company, then created an external view for state policy administrator access on Teachstone.com

Our Result

RYE improved Teachstone’s ability to tell its story within and outside the company, creating valuable marketing materials with its client case studies and building an accessible, useful repository of state policy and product implementation that serves as a living resource for internal and external stakeholders.
