CASE STUDY: SLOOH
Slooh brings the wonder of space exploration to the public, at school, and at home. For almost 20 years, the company has provided the ability to view space phenomena, capture observational data, and engage in gamified learning through its patented user-controlled network of online telescopes and standards-aligned curriculum.
THE CHALLENGE:
Slooh's innovative online telescope brings a powerful tool for scientific exploration into the hands of students and educators. That tool needed a meaningful anchor in classroom instruction in the form of activities categorized as Slooh Quests. To gain real traction in schools, these Quests needed to support larger instructional goals, including standards mastery, engaging pacing, and developmentally appropriate resources.
RYE’S IMPACT:
RYE's educators have taken SLOOH's learning quests from space to the classroom. Providing NGSS, Common Core, and TEKS alignment of Slooh Quests from grades K through 12. RYE positioned these Quests and aligned instructional guides, lessons, and activities, to meaningfully bring the Slooh experience into elementary and secondary classrooms. Building off a model of inquiry-based learning, RYE ensured that the Quests supported high-quality instruction, that material were created at appropriate Lexile levels for student learners, and that the progression of activities created engaging STEM learning sequences for students.
